11-26-07

Today seemed to go by so fast. I passed off two PE's; the sealant and the air-powder polish. I think that I did okay on those. I need to be faster at doing the sealants and not put too much on. We also went over emergency information. I hope that I don't have an emergency. I think it would be very stressful.

Mock patient

Today was our trial day to work on a patient. I felt okay, but I still am a little nervous about steps and we were rushed today. Tomorrow is Thanksgiving and today they wanted to leave by 3:00, it's almost 4:00. Well, hopefully I will do okay when Brent comes in on Wed.

11/14

Today we practiced PSR screening. I thought it went very well today. Probing has become easier than I thought it was going to be today. I passed off two PE's; the fluoride and the instrument sharpening. I thought those weren't too bad to get. Today went smooth. I felt better than on Monday.

Sealants

Today seemed very busy. It took me a little while to get into the ease of doing thungs. I put five sealants on Kristen today. It took me a little longer than I thought it would. I did get everything that I needed to done. I passed off my polishing P.E. I did okay on that. It was an okay day.

air powder polishing

I have decided that air powder polishing isn't so much fun. It actually stings and it is not comfortable at all. It also gets all over everything. It is not my favorite; I think I would rather use the prophy cup and prophy paste to polish. It wasn't too difficult though so it was alright. I got to pass off my universal intruments and my eaglesoft walkout PE. I thought the universal instrument PE was more difficult for me. I need to work on getting in the proximal areas and making sure my working stroke has enough pressure. Today started a little slow, we had to wait for the air powder tips to get out of the sterilizer. I thought that after the first part of class I was productive though. Hopefully next time we can start and have everything ready.

November 5

Today we worked on sharpening instruments. I think that sharpening is a little different and I hope that I can get the hang of it. It was nice to have the half paper to help with the angle of the sharpening stone. I also passed off my intraoral camera PE. I did well on this PE. Then we learned about the ultrasonic scaler. I was excited to be able to learn this.

Halloween

Today was fun. I thought that polishing was not very hard. Fluoride wasn't very hard either. Today was good. Have a happy halloween.

10-29-07

Today we practiced posterior scaling. I didn't have a partner to practice on today so I used the typodont. I got to practice a little bit on a real person so that was good. I thought today was good. I like to be able to practice. We get out early so we can go to the Halloween party. I think that will be fun.

10-24-17

Today we practiced posterior scaling. It was good, but I know that I need to practice. Getting more practice will help me feel more comfortable. I passed off two PE's, which I am glad because now I won' t have to worry so much about being late because I am one PE ahead. Hopefully, I stay ahead.

Fast day

Today was a crazy day. We practiced doing everything up to an OHI. It was good practice. I got another pe done today too. Today went by super fast. It was good though.

Scaling

Today in clinic we practiced scaling. I thought it would be harder than what we actually did. I think it has helped to practice scaling and probing for at least getting a feel for instruments. I thought it was a good day. I also passed off my probing PE. I feel like I am getting better. I am a little more comfortable so I think as time goes by and more practicing I will feel a lot more comfortable.

instrument set up

Today we looked at all of our instruments and learned what they were and when and where to use them. I hope I remember for Wed. We also practiced on each other. We worked up through the OD. I also passed off my explorer PE. I was a little nervous, but I did okay on it. Today was a good day. I felt like I got a lot done.

Probing

Today went better than on Monday. I feel like we had more time to do things and I wasn't already flustered by getting a misconduct. Today was fun too, because we did the disclosing agent on each other. I had more plaque than I thought I would have. Two PE's were due today too. I passed off the treatment plan PE and the instrument grasp PE. The two PE's weren't bad at all to pass off. We also practiced probing. I still feel awkward at probing. I think it will still take some more practice for me.

Today was not a good day. I couldn't find my instruments. I found out that I left them in the ultrasonic and I got a misconduct warning. I won't leave them in the ultrasonic today. I did pass off the intraoral PE. I feel like today was super busy and I felt a little flustered to get things done that I needed to. I hope Wed. goes better.

Probing

Well, today we practiced more probing. I did a full mouth probe on Michelle. I think I did okay. It felt a little better today than on Monday. I will have to work on where to be in my chair and positioning better. I passed off my extraoral PE. I actually liked that one because I felt like I knew it pretty well. I will have to pass off the intraoral PE next time.

probing

Today we practiced probing on each other. I actually thought it was good to practice on each other rather than on the typodonts because the typodonts are hard to tell what you are suppose to be doing. Over all I think it went pretty well today. I passed off the mirror and fulcrum PE, which also went well. I will have to look over the extraoral and intraoral PE so I can pass them off next time. At least I want to pass off both of those PE's.

exploring

Today in clinic we practiced exploring some more. I felt more comfortable today than I did on Monday. I think it will still take some time to get really comfortable. It made me nervous to actually work on a real person. I definitely didn't want to hurt her. I also passed off my vital signs PE. That was good. I didn't think that was difficult.

Angulation

Today in clinic we spent the whole time working on adaptation and angulation. I think I feel a little bit comfortable, but I need to practice a lot more. It felt wierd to use the explorer on a real person. I hope that it will become more comfortable as I work on it more with time. I wanted to get a PE done, but I will have to do it next time because we ran out of time.

Intra Oral

Today in clinic we practiced our intraoral exams and we got to look in each other's mouths. We also went over the extraoral exam and bloodpressure. I passed of the HHX PE. It was a little harder than the previous ones because there was so much information and it was hard to memorize it all. I felt like I knew it pretty well though.

Fulcrum

Today in clinic we practiced fulcrum and mirror positions. Fulcrum was a little confusing, but they say that after we practice more with actually working with instruments we will become better at it. Right now I really have to think about what I am doing; for example making sure my pinki finger is by my fulcrum finger. I felt pretty good with mirror positioning.

blood pressure

Today in clinic we went over blood pressure, pulse and respiratory rate. Practice, practice, practice is what will help me. I t was a little confusing first to hear what I was suppose to hear, but after a little practice it got better. I also passed off the positioning PE, which I liked because I think I actually got it all.

Health History Clinic

Today we went over Health Histories in clinic. I found that health histories are very long. I think there is a lot to remember, but as we practice them and do more with them I think it will become easier to remember everything. I need to remember to write down what they had done at a dental visit when they went last.

Sept.5, 2007

Today in clinic we went over the things we need to do when we are a clinic assisstant. I passed off two of the PE's, the one thing I had a hard time with was remembering that you have to go back to get your instruments after their done on the cleanup evaluation. I know I should have remembered, but I will from now on. All in all I think it was a pretty productive day.

Second day of clinic

Today is a long day, but it has been okay. I know where I am suppose to be at least. I passed off two of the PE's and it wasn't so bad. It's good we get to look over the PE's before we pass them off; it makes me feel better prepared.

First Day of Clinic

Today was a little crazy for me. I think once I get a feel of how things are suppose to be, then I will be alright. I just need to get organized.
